Four Ways Septic System Services Can Fix A Bad Smell

Blog

If you notice a foul smell coming from your toilet or any other plumbing fixtures such as sinks, tubs, or showers, it could be caused by a malfunctioning septic system. Here are four ways an expert can fix this problem:

1. Septic System Services Can Repair Leaks And Overflow

Septic tanks and drain fields break down organic materials and treat wastewater before releasing it into the environment. However, if not maintained properly, they can become clogged with solid waste and debris that prevents them from working correctly. When this happens, waste will back up into the house through the plumbing drains, causing the sewer lines to overflow and leak out onto the ground outside of your property line. If this continues for long periods of time, it can lead to serious health issues such as hepatitis A or E.coli infections, as well as skin irritation from contact with chemicals released by decomposing organic matter.

2. Septic System Services Can Add Bacteria

If your septic tank needs help digesting waste, then adding bacteria can help to break down food and other items faster so they don't sit around in the tank too long before being removed through pumping or draining. This will also help with any odour issues that may arise when there isn't enough bacteria in place to properly break down all of the materials that enter your tank every day.

3. Septic Tank Services Can Use Additives

Septic systems are designed to treat wastewater for safe disposal into the ground. However, there are times when these systems can't handle all of the wastewater entering them. This can cause a bad smell from your drain or even from your toilet bowl because there is too much water pressure on the system. Adding additives can help alleviate this problem by adding extra chemicals that will break down waste more efficiently and prevent clogs from forming in pipes or septic tanks.

4. Septic Tank Services Can Clean Filters

Filters are an important part of a septic tank system. They help to keep the water flowing freely and prevent solid particles from entering the groundwater supply. Filters can become clogged over time, and this will cause a backup in your drain or toilet bowl. Septic tank services can clean these filters out so that they continue to work properly.

If you notice a bad smell coming from your drain or toilet bowl, it's important to get it checked out as soon as possible by professionals who know how to diagnose problems with septic systems quickly and efficiently. Contact a company that offers septic system services to learn more.

Converting to composting toilets

We aren't on the main sewer line on our property and it's always been an issue getting the septic tank emptied in winter when the road gets muddy and trucks get bogged. As a result, we decided to switch to composting toilets in the home. It's been a great option to get our toileting waste minimised and to help the environment at the same time. It's a bit of an adjustment period when you move to a composting toilet so I thought I'd start a blog explaining the process. I hope it will be useful for other people who have septic tanks and are contemplating making the switch.
